Chimerism

Hi my husband is just over his day 100 with only a slight infection which he fought of himself. His blood results are really good and he is doing really well, however his chimerism was 98% last time and he has just had his chimerism which has gone down to 78%. The doctor seems quite happy with his blood results but I am worried that his chimerism has gone down. Does everyone know what that means. Thanks
Lindsay

  • Hi Lindsay,

The chimerism is the measure of how much of his system is that of the donors compared to his original system. Your husband is still probably quite early in his transplant if he's just over 100 days and at that time, the chimerism can fluctuate a little, particularly if he's had an infection like you mention.

Hopefully once he's fully over the infection his chimerism will pick up again.

    All the best,

    Steve
