Food allergies post transplant and DLI

Hi there

Before my transplant I was gluten intolerant. However since transplant I have become dairy intolerant, and more recently having had DLI I now seem to have a new food allergy. I am still trying to work out which food type it is by elimination.

Has anyone else developed food allergies post transplant?

  • Hi there, welcome to the forum.

I didn't develop any allergies to food ore otherwise after my transplant, but in reverse, my transplant seems to have cured my hayfever which I used to suffer badly from before my transplant.

I wonder if we inherit things like this from our donor and perhaps our tloerance of certain things changes in line with our donor? I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had any experience of old allergies being cured or new ones developing after their transplant.

    All the best,

    Steve

  • Hi. I developed food intolerances nearly 9 years ago after contracting Salmonella poisoning in South Africa. Gluten, dairy, pulses and a few others. I had treatment for AML September 2022, culminating in cord transplant in February 2023. I was very poorly in hospital after transplant and couldn't eat anything and my weight dropped t 7st 8lbs. I am not eating normally and to start with didn't seem to have any of the old intolerances, but they have now come back, not quite as bad, but still there. I had hoped that because my immune system was wiped I might have got away with it. I have sent off for allergy tests, but they seem to be conflicting. Best thing to do is the FODMAP diet then you will know for certain what intolerances you have and can deal with it. Best of luck.
