Sibling Donor living in Germany

edited April 17 in Pre-transplant
Hi, My adult daughter requires a pre-emptive stem cell transplant (Gata2 deficiency) and my adult son who lives in Germany is being asked to be a donor. He was previously told (last year) that he would not be their choice. Now, with 3 weeks notice (and no warning) they say he needs to fly to uk and spend 2 weeks conditioning for a transplant on 20th May. He was not approached first and had no opportunity to discuss any of this before the dates were fixed to he is, understandably, quite stressed and cross. Furthermore, he has approached DKMS (German BMT) who have said it is possible to do the pre-work with them in Germany.

Both son and daughter are aware and have given me permission to look for advice.

Does anyone have experience of using a donor who lives in Germany (or any other country)? Were they able to do the initial blood test and/or the 2 week conditioning in Germany and then fly over for the transplant, or did they spend all two weeks in UK? Would welcome any advice. thank you
